What the publisher says
As described on AWS Marketplace.
Your engineers are adopting coding agents. Your database infrastructure isn't ready for that.
When 10 engineers each run 10 agents, you need hundreds of concurrent database environments for CI, preview deploys, and testing agent-generated code against real data before it hits production. Shared staging breaks. Full replicas are too slow and too expensive. And nobody should be giving agents access to production.

Xata connects to your existing RDS or Aurora via logical replication and creates instant copy-on-write branches. Every branch has real production data (anonymized if needed), runs standard Postgres, and scales to zero when idle. Your production database doesn't move. Your team gets safe, governed database access for every PR, every agent run, every test.
How it works:
- Connect Xata to your existing RDS or Aurora. Production stays where it is.
- Xata replicates and anonymizes your data automatically.
- Engineers and agents create branches on demand. Each one is a full, writable Postgres copy.
- Branches scale to zero when idle. Storage is copy-on-write. You pay for diffs, not duplicates.
- When the PR merges or the test passes, the branch is deleted. No cleanup or zombie environments.
What your team gets:
- Agent isolation. Coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Amazon Q Developer) get their own branches.
- Branch-per-PR with real data. Every pull request gets its own database.
- Anonymization flexibility - as much or as little as your project needs. Supports basic data minimzation all the way up to HIPAA compliant de-identification with Expert Determination.
- No migration. Production stays on RDS or Aurora. Xata adds branching functionality to existing production Postgres.
- Scale-to-zero economics.
- Standard Vanilla Postgres.
Built for teams that are:
- Running production Postgres on RDS or Aurora at 100GB+
- Adopting coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Q Developer, Copilot) across engineering
- Looking to unlock agent development responsibly: governed, tested, and safe to merge
Highlights
Highlighted by the publisher on AWS Marketplace.
Scale-to-Zero Compute - Branches use compute only when actively queried and shut down automatically when idle. A branch active 3 hours per day costs roughly $1/month. Run hundreds of concurrent database environments without paying for idle capacity.
Copy-on-Write Storage - Every branch starts as a zero-cost logical copy of the source database. Storage grows only as data diverges from the parent. Branch a 1TB database and pay for kilobytes until your agent or CI job starts writing changes.
Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) - Run the Xata data plane in your own AWS account. Data never leaves your VPC, your compliance boundary stays intact, and you keep full control of encryption keys and network policies. BYOC is available through the marketplace on request.

Unknown means this listing does not publish a repository. It is not a statement that the code is closed, and a linked repository is not a claim that the publisher wrote it: the registry computes that relationship privately and does not publish it.
Evidence risk is the share of the build you cannot see before you deploy, not a security rating. Sign in to see the layer-by-layer basis for this band.
